FORMULA STUDENT

WHAT IS FORMULA STUDENT?

Formula Student is one of the world’s most prestigious and well-established academic motorsport competitions, aiming to cultivate highly skilled undergraduate students with practical expertise in engineering, organization, and management through participation in a year-long innovative project. The event originated as Formula SAE in the United States in 1980 and has since expanded to involve over four hundred universities, with official events held in 10 countries worldwide, along with numerous competitive gatherings at other locations throughout the season.

Formula SAE encompasses all aspects of car manufacturing, including research, construction, testing, development, marketing, management, and fundraising. Student teams from around the globe design, build, and race small-scale formula-style racing cars. This provides engineers with the opportunity to apply theory into practice in a dynamic and competitive environment.

Formula Student consistently and systematically produces experienced, knowledgeable, capable engineers who are prepared to direct their skills and passion toward the engineering challenges of the future.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A single Formula Student competition unfolds over multiple days at iconic racing tracks globally acclaimed for their prestige, such as Silverstone in the UK, the Hockenheimring in Germany, and the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

The competition comprises two main categories: static events and dynamic events. Static events consist of the business presentation, cost analysis, and design evaluation, while dynamic events include the endurance race, efficiency measurements, autocross event, acceleration test, and skid pad challenge. Teams have the potential to accumulate a maximum of 1000 points if they secure first place in each individual event.
